Step 1: Choose Your Angle of Attack

Choosing the proper angle ensures you can effectively clean your pipes while prioritizing safety and efficiency. Many facilities benefit from having multiple angles on hand to address various cleaning scenarios.

Straight Design

  • Straight to the Point: Ideal for straightforward access points and versatile enough for most cleaning tasks. Offers the most extensive drill bit size options. Your primary go-to for efficient, no-fuss pipe maintenance.

90 Degree Design

  • The Obstacle Navigator: Designed for maximum maneuverability in congested pipe layouts. Perfect for tight corners, wall-adjacent valves, or any scenario where straight access is impossible.

60 Degree Design

  • The Back-Saver: Engineered at a 60° angle to reach those awkward below-knee drain valves without straining. Balances accessibility with user comfort for easy cleaning. Essential for low-positioned valves and ergonomic working conditions.

Step 2: Select Your Packing Type

The packing type determines your tool's ability to withstand various temperatures, pressures, and chemical environments. Select based on your specific application requirements to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Type 1 (Graphite): up to 700°F, 600 PSI, 0-14 pH

  • Ideal for high heat and diverse chemical environments. Graphite packing offers excellent resistance across the entire pH spectrum.

Type 2 (TFE/Teflon): up to 400°F, 600 PSI, 0-14 pH

  • Perfect for moderate temperatures and chemical exposure. Teflon packing provides superior chemical resistance and low friction.

Type 3 (Braided Graphite): up to 1000°F, 1000 PSI, 0-14 pH

  • Engineered for extreme temperatures and pressures. Braided graphite offers the highest temperature and pressure ratings for the most demanding applications.

Step 3: Determine Your Ideal Bit Size

Your drill bit is the hero of your Rod Out Tool - it's what clears out the pipe. The size of your drill bit determines which size end connectors you can use. The end connector is what connects your tool to the bleeder or pipe.

Quick Guide To Select Your Drill Bit Size:

  • 5/32" & 7/32" bits: can use 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", or 1" end connectors.

  • 9/32" bit: can use 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", or 1" end connectors.

  • 3/8" & 7/16" bits: can use 1/2", 3/4", or 1" end connectors.

  • 7/16" bits: special order only.

  • 1/2" bit: can use 3/4" or 1" end connectors.

  • 5/8" bit: comes with a 1" end connector.

Note: For 60° and 90° angled tools, you can only choose 9/32", 3/8", or 7/16" bits due to the bend.

Step 4: Select Your MNPT End Connector

The MNPT end connector is how your Rod Out Tool attaches to the bleeder valve or piping system. It creates a tight seal, allowing you to clean the pipe while maintaining flow and operations.

Your end connector size should match the size of the pipe or bleeder you're cleaning. MNPT stands for Male National Pipe Thread. Think of it like the 'screw' part of a connection. It's the threaded end that screws into your pipe or valve.

Remember: The drill bit size you chose in Step 3 limits your end connector options.

How to choose:

  1. Measure the pipes or bleeders in your facility.

  2. Pick the end connector size that matches your pipes.

Step 5: Choose Your Working Length

The working length tells you how long the tool extends into the piping system.
